Imphal, Aug 12 (NationPress) In a coordinated series of operations, the Army, Assam Rifles, and Manipur Police have apprehended 22 hardened militants from various groups, while also seizing six distinct types of arms, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), a significant stockpile of ammunition, and other military supplies across six districts, officials reported on Tuesday.
A defence spokesperson mentioned that these meticulously planned operations, based on actionable intelligence, led to the capture of 22 active members from various insurgent factions operating in the hills and valleys.
The operations spanned six districts: Bishnupur, Churachandpur, Chandel, Thoubal, Imphal West, and Imphal East.
During this week-long intensive effort, six advanced weapons, some IEDs, grenades, assorted ammunition, and various other military supplies were also seized.
According to the defence PRO, the detained militants were associated with different factions of three banned organizations: Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), and United National Liberation Front (UNLF).
This series of successful operations highlights the unwavering commitment of security forces and all related agencies to uphold peace, stability, and public safety in Manipur, the spokesperson noted.
A police official indicated that a prominent KCP (People's War Group) member, Mayengbam Amitab Singh alias Khaba (32), was arrested in Thoubal district on Monday.
Initial investigations have linked him to a prior incident involving gunfire directed at police personnel and threats made to employees of NIT Imphal.
Pistols and additional arms and ammunition were found in his possession. Security forces are actively continuing search operations and area control in susceptible and border areas across the districts.
Authorities have also warned the public against the dissemination of rumors and misleading videos. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and not to trust unverified content.
The authenticity of any videos, audio clips, etc., can be verified through the Central Control Room, as stated by the police.
