A Defence spokesperson reported that these extensive joint operations took place in the districts of Imphal West, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Tengnoupal, Jiribam, and Kakching between Wednesday and Thursday, resulting in the recovery of 23 arms and a considerable amount of ammunition.
He added that while acting on intelligence regarding the presence of militants in Phadinga, Imphal West, and Bhumpa Khulen in Thoubal, the Army and Assam Rifles initiated patrols that led to the apprehension of three militants, who initially identified themselves as members of the Kangleipak Communist Party (People's War Group) (KCP-PWG).
During this operation, an AK series weapon, an INSAS rifle, a sniper, and a 12-bore weapon along with war-like materials were confiscated from the KCP-PWG militants. In a separate operation in Moirang, Bishnupur district, the Army and Manipur Police detained 13 militants, who were found in possession of weapons and war-like supplies.
Upon interrogation, all detainees acknowledged their allegiance to the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) group. In Imphal West, based on specific intel about arms in the Sagaisabi area, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police conducted a search operation, successfully recovering one rifle, one sniper rifle, two 9mm pistols, one single barrel gun, grenades, ammunition, and other war-related items.
On the same day in Jiribam district, the forces recovered an AK-47, two improvised mortars (Pompi), a bolt-action rifle, a pistol, grenades, explosives, and various ammunition. A coordinated effort in the Tengnoupal district, near Myanmar, led to the recovery of four bolt-action rifles, three single-bore rifles, and additional war-like supplies.
Another operation in the Singtom area of Kakching district resulted in the recovery of one self-loading rifle (SLR) and one single-barrel rifle. The 16 militants from KCP-PWG and KYKL, along with the seized arms and ammunition, have been transferred to the custody of the Manipur Police.
