Imphal, July 12 (NationPress) The security forces in Manipur have successfully detained 12 militants from various prohibited extremist outfits and seized a cache of arms and ammunition within the past 24 hours across several districts, officials reported on Saturday.
A police officer revealed that the apprehended militants are linked to the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), Socialist Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (SOREPA), and People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), with arrests made in Imphal West, Imphal East, and Kakching districts.
Among those detained was a PREPAK operative from Imphal West district, identified as Chingakham Sanjoy Singh Eremba (42). Authorities seized a wallet containing an Aadhaar card and PAN card from his possession.
This militant had received 45 days of basic military training in Myanmar and was associated with the underground organization before returning to Manipur.
Another PREPAK operative was arrested from the Wabagai area in Kakching district. This individual, Leishanthem Athoiba (21), also underwent military training in Myanmar, with a mobile phone recovered from him.
The police reported the capture of three active KCP members involved in extorting and threatening innocent civilians, shopkeepers, and bank staff in the Manipur valley.
Additionally, Manipur Police apprehended Warepam Shanta Singh (42) for the illegal possession of arms and ammunition at Kanglatombi Bazar in Imphal West district, where a 9mm pistol, one magazine, six rounds of 9mm ammunition, and a mobile phone with a SIM card were confiscated.
Further arms and ammunition were also recovered in Imphal East District. Security forces continue to execute search operations and maintain a presence in sensitive areas throughout the districts. The police have warned the public against spreading rumors and fake videos.
Authorities urge citizens to remain cautious about unverified videos and to confirm the authenticity of any clips through the Central Control Room, as stated by police.
