Imphal, April 21 (NationPress) The Manipur Police have apprehended eight additional militants affiliated with the Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) and successfully rescued four individuals, including three women, over the past 24 hours, according to officials on Monday.

This latest operation brings the total number of captured extremists from various factions to 20 within just 48 hours, with significant recoveries of weapons and ammunition.

A police spokesperson reported that on Sunday night, law enforcement and security teams surrounded a militant hideout in Heirok, located in Thoubal district, resulting in the arrest of seven key members of the KCP (PWG) faction and the seizure of a substantial cache of arms and ammunition.

Another member of the KCP (PWG) was detained in the Wangoi region of Imphal West District on the same night.

Among the arms and ammunition seized from the militants were two INSAS rifles, one INSAS Light Machine Gun, one carbine, one MK-11 rifle, approximately 170 assorted ammunition, a radio device, a motorbike, a car, several identification cards, and various incriminating documents.

The Manipur Police also liberated four individuals, which included three women, who were unlawfully held captive in a residence at Langol Laimanai under the Imphal Municipal Council. Three suspects, who are members of an organization known as Amour of Manipur, were arrested for their involvement in this illegal confinement. The group, led by Thangjam Basanti Leima (50), allegedly extorted Rs five lakh from the victims concerning matters of elopement.

Moreover, the police initiated a focused campaign aimed at recovering stolen and snatched vehicles from criminal elements, successfully retrieving 13 different vehicles from various locations.

In a public advisory, the Manipur Police encouraged citizens to remain vigilant against misleading rumors and to verify information before believing or sharing it.

“Any dissemination of unfounded videos or similar content should be confirmed through the rumor-free hotline of the central control room. Additionally, numerous false posts are being circulated on social media. It is important to note that posting such fake content may result in legal consequences,” the advisory stated.

The police continue to call upon the public to return any looted firearms, ammunition, and explosives to law enforcement or the nearest security agencies promptly.
