A police representative indicated that the detained militants were affiliated with different factions of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), the People’s Liberation Army, and the United National Liberation Front (UNLF).
These individuals were implicated in kidnappings and the coercive collection of funds from contractors, government personnel, traders, and even ordinary citizens in Imphal East and Imphal West districts.
Authorities recovered several items from the militants, including weapons and ammunition, cash, Aadhaar cards, incriminating documents, two motorcycles, and some mobile devices.
In a parallel operation, the Manipur Police successfully recovered six additional vehicles from various locations within the state on Thursday night as part of their ongoing campaign to retrieve stolen or snatched cars.
Amidst the ethnic unrest in Manipur, the issue of vehicle theft remains significant, with 105 stolen cars and 12 two-wheelers being reclaimed since April 16.
The police official noted that a special initiative was launched by Manipur Police on April 16 to recover stolen and snatched vehicles from miscreants and assailants. Additionally, police have been conducting a focused operation against the unlawful use of tinted films on vehicles.
Since the beginning of the year, 3,900 vehicles in various districts have had tinted films removed.
As part of ongoing searches and area control operations, security forces have also seized sophisticated arms and ammunition from Churachandpur and Imphal West districts.
In a public advisory, the Manipur Police urged citizens to disregard rumors and remain cautious of fake videos circulating online.
“Any distribution of unfounded videos should be verified through the rumor-free hotline of the central control room. Moreover, numerous false posts are being shared on social media. It is warned that posting fake information online will result in legal repercussions,” the advisory stated.
The police continue to appeal to the public to return any looted arms, ammunition, and explosives to the police or the nearest security forces without delay.
