Imphal, April 22 (NationPress) In the midst of ongoing ethnic violence in Manipur, the theft of vehicles, particularly cars and two-wheelers, has emerged as a significant issue. Over the course of five days, authorities reported the recovery of 75 stolen four-wheelers and seven two-wheelers from various locations across the state, officials confirmed on Tuesday.
A police spokesperson stated that the Manipur Police initiated a targeted operation to recover stolen or snatched vehicles from individuals involved in criminal activities. This effort resulted in the recovery of 75 vehicles and seven two-wheelers from April 16 to April 20, primarily in the valley districts.
The spokesperson noted that police are also conducting a special initiative against the illegal use of tinted window films on vehicles.
Since the beginning of the year, authorities have removed tinted films from 3,720 vehicles across various districts.
During ongoing operations for area control and searches, law enforcement apprehended four PREPAK militants in the Imphal East District on Monday night.
According to the police, three of the militants were implicated in the kidnapping of two individuals from the Imphal East district, demanding ransom near Naorem Birahari College, Khundrakpam, Imphal East District.
Fortunately, the police successfully rescued the two abducted individuals.
In another development, the Manipur police issued a strict directive prohibiting personnel from attending meetings convened by any organization.
The Superintendent of Police in Kangpokpi district stated that it was brought to their attention via social media that the Kangchup Area Protection and Development Committee (KAPDC), a notable Kuki tribal organization, is organizing a meeting for all active members of civil police, Manipur Rifles, and other state forces from Kuki villages on April 30.
“All relevant personnel are hereby warned that the announcement of this meeting by the fictitious organization is unlawful, and any uniformed personnel participating in the meeting would face severe disciplinary action for gross service misconduct,” the directive emphasized.
Additionally, the police have urged the public to refrain from believing rumors and to be cautious of misleading videos. “Any dissemination of baseless videos must be verified through the central control room’s rumor-free number. Furthermore, numerous false posts are circulating on social media. It is warned that posting fake content on social media will lead to legal repercussions,” the appeal stated.
The police continue to call upon the public to return any looted arms, ammunition, and explosives to the police or the nearest security forces immediately.
