Imphal, April 27 (NationPress) In a remarkable operation, security forces in Manipur apprehended 12 additional militants affiliated with various outlawed groups across three districts within the last 24 hours, according to officials on Sunday.
A police spokesperson revealed that the detained militants were members of distinct factions of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), PREPAK, and the United National Liberation Front (UNLF). These militants have been implicated in numerous crimes, including the abduction and coercive collection of funds from contractors, government personnel, traders, and ordinary citizens in the Imphal East, Imphal West, and Kakching districts.
Out of the 12 militants, eight were captured in the Imphal East district, three in Imphal West, and one in Kakching. A variety of items were seized from them, including arms and ammunition, wireless communication devices, cash, Aadhaar cards, incriminating papers, two motorcycles, and 15 mobile phones.
Among those arrested was a lone militant from PREPAK named Takhellambam Meipaksana Singh, alias Korou or Biken (29). He is linked to multiple offenses, including the recent closure of a gas agency office in Imphal East, and was working under a self-styled PREPAK commander, Sana, who had recently been detained and is currently in police custody.
The police further stated that during ongoing search and area control operations, they retrieved sophisticated arms and ammunition from the Pherzawl and Kakching districts.
In a public advisory, Manipur Police urged citizens to remain vigilant against rumors and to verify any dubious videos through the central control room's rumor-free hotline. The warning emphasized that sharing fake content on social media could lead to legal consequences.
The police continue to call on the public to return looted arms, ammunition, and explosives to the authorities or the nearest security personnel without delay. Amid the ethnic unrest in Manipur, reports of vehicle thefts have surfaced, with 108 stolen cars and 16 two-wheelers reclaimed since April 16 from various locations in the state.
Additionally, the authorities had initiated a special operation on April 16 aimed at recovering stolen or snatched vehicles from criminal elements and attackers.
