Imphal, Nov 2 (NationPress) Security forces have successfully apprehended eight militants affiliated with different prohibited organizations across five distinct districts in Manipur within the last 24 hours. Authorities reported that a cache of arms and ammunition was also seized during these operations.
A police representative indicated that the detained militants belonged to various extremist factions, including the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), and the People’s Liberation Army (PLA). They were captured in regions such as Jiribam, Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, and Kakching.
These militants are reportedly involved in multiple illegal activities, such as coercion and the forced collection of funds from civilians, government personnel, contractors, and others.
The recovered items include small arms, an improvised explosive device, Aadhaar and PAN cards, several mobile devices, additional SIM cards, and a vehicle.
In separate operations, security forces have also recovered arms and munitions from the hilly area of Kangpokpi district.
The confiscated weapons and related supplies consist of five locally manufactured bolt-action single-barreled firearms, two communication devices, and numerous combat boots and uniforms.
A representative from the Manipur Police stated that search operations and area control efforts are ongoing in mixed-population and high-risk zones throughout the districts.
According to the police, a total of 115 checkpoints have been established in various districts within both the hilly and valley regions to deter illegal movements of hostile elements and suspicious vehicles.
Additionally, law enforcement has provided protection for numerous vehicles transporting essential goods along the Imphal-Jiribam National Highway (NH-37).
Robust security protocols are in place in all high-risk areas, and a security convoy is assigned to sensitive routes to ensure the safe transit of vehicles.
The Manipur Police have encouraged residents to remain vigilant against misinformation and false videos circulating online. "Confirm the authenticity of any suspicious videos or audio clips with the Central Control Room. Beware of potentially fraudulent posts on social media, as sharing such content may lead to legal repercussions," the police stated.
Authorities have also urged the community to promptly return any looted arms, ammunition, or explosives to local police or security force stations.
