Imphal, September 30 (NationPress) - In a coordinated effort across multiple districts in Manipur, the Army, along with other security agencies, captured four determined militants and confiscated eight firearms, several Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), narcotics, and various military-grade supplies, officials reported on Tuesday.
Defence Spokesman Lt Col Amit Shukla stated that forces from the Indian Army and Assam Rifles, operating under the Spear Corps, collaborated closely with Manipur Police to carry out a series of tactical, intelligence-led missions over recent days in Tengnoupal, Imphal East, and Chandel Districts. These operations resulted in the detention of militants affiliated with different insurgent factions and the recovery of significant military assets.
The apprehended individuals were linked to the Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) and the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), as well as the Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) and the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK). Recovered arms include one modified AK-47 rifle, one INSAS rifle, a 9mm pistol, two single-barrel guns, a .22 rifle, a mortar, and various rounds of ammunition.
Additionally, during joint operations in Tengnoupal, Assam Rifles set up checkpoints that led to the discovery of about 120,000 methamphetamine tablets valued at approximately Rs 3.6 crore.
Lt Col Shukla emphasized that these efforts by security forces underline their steadfast dedication to upholding peace and security in Manipur.
A police representative indicated that ongoing search operations and area control efforts are being conducted in mixed-populated and vulnerable regions across various districts.
The security forces have established 115 checkpoints in both hilly and valley areas to deter illegal activities and suspicious vehicle movements.
As part of their security measures, the forces have provided protection to numerous vehicles transporting essential goods along the Imphal-Jiribam National Highway (NH-37). Stringent security protocols are being enforced in sensitive areas to ensure the safe passage of vehicles.
Manipur Police have urged residents to remain cautious about misinformation and to verify the authenticity of circulating videos and audio clips through the Central Control Room. They warned that sharing false information on social media could lead to legal repercussions.
Furthermore, authorities have called upon individuals to promptly return any looted arms, ammunition, or explosives to local police stations or nearby security posts.
