Imphal, Aug 4 (NationPress) In a series of intensive operations, the Army and Assam Rifles, in close collaboration with the Manipur Police and other security forces, apprehended 15 active insurgents and seized 69 firearms, 16 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), and a variety of ammunition, as reported by officials on Monday.
According to Defence Spokesman Lt Col Amit Shukla, the coordinated forces acted on specific intelligence, conducting a number of raids over recent days across Churachandpur, Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, and Thoubal districts, leading to the capture of these hardcore militants and the recovery of a substantial arsenal.
The insurgents belonged to four prohibited militant groups: United National Liberation Front (UNLF), Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL), Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), and People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK).
Lt Col Shukla confirmed that the joint forces recovered 69 different types of weapons, 16 IEDs, several grenades, additional ammunition, radio devices, and various military supplies.
Among these were previously looted service weapons, homemade firearms, and explosives that could potentially cause significant harm.
These coordinated efforts highlight the unwavering commitment of the security forces to uphold peace and stability in the area while thwarting the resurgence of insurgent activities, emphasized the defence spokesman.
In a related development, a senior official from Manipur Police mentioned earlier today that ten additional militants from various banned groups were apprehended within the last 24 hours by the joint forces.
The ten militants arrested in three districts—Imphal West, Imphal East, and Bishnupur—were affiliated with different factions of KCP and PREPAK.
Security forces also confiscated pistols and various items, including several mobile phones, documents, and some ammunition from the detained militants.
The captured militants were implicated in activities such as kidnapping, gunfire incidents, extortion, and soliciting money from schools in the Imphal valley region.
