Army and Security Forces Seize 42 Weapons and Ammunition Across 5 Districts in Manipur

Imphal, Jan 5 (NationPress) In a series of effective joint missions conducted by the Indian Army, 42 weapons, a substantial amount of ammunition, and additional military supplies have been recovered from five districts within the hilly and valley regions of Manipur, as stated by a defense official on Sunday.
Defense spokesperson Lt Col Amit Shukla reported that the operations were carried out in coordination with the Manipur Police and other security agencies, based on specific intelligence, over the past few days in the districts of Imphal West, Chandel, Thoubal, Kangpokpi, and Churachandpur.
The recovered arms and ammunition consist of two carbine machine guns (CMG), two SLRs, three modified .303 rifles, one M-16 rifle, three lathods, seven Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), thirteen pistols, seven single-barrel rifles, one modified sniper rifle, four single-barrel 12-bore guns, one anti-riot gun, two single bolt action rifles, one improvised long-range mortar, one 12-bore gun, numerous grenades, a large cache of assorted ammunition, and other military supplies.
Lt Col Shukla emphasized that the successful recovery of these weapons and the collaborative patrolling underscores the unwavering cooperation between the army and various law enforcement agencies, showcasing their dedication to maintaining the security and safety of the region.
Earlier this week, Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh announced that 3,112 arms and 2,551 explosives looted during ethnic violence have been recovered.
Approximately 625 individuals have been arrested, and around 12,247 First Information Reports (FIRs) have been filed in various police stations across the state concerning these incidents, he informed the media.
In a separate incident, the Assam Rifles and Manipur Police successfully apprehended a suspected member of the United National Liberation Front in the Hatta Golapati area of Imphal East district on Saturday night.
Police reported that the UNLF cadre is suspected of being involved in extortion, vehicle hijacking, and intimidation activities in and around Imphal. The security forces also recovered a vehicle that had been forcefully taken from its owner.
