Imphal, Oct 6 (NationPress) The security forces in Manipur have apprehended four militants affiliated with two different outlawed groups, alongside two extortionists and two drug peddlers. In a significant operation within the last 24 hours, they seized drugs valued at Rs 6 crore, according to official reports released on Monday.
A police spokesperson indicated that as part of their ongoing initiative against illegal militant activities, the forces detained the four militants from the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) and the People’s Liberation Army (PLA)/Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) in the Bishnupur and Imphal West Districts.
The PLA, one of Manipur’s oldest militant organizations, is primarily active in the Imphal valley, operating through its political wing, the RPF.
The captured insurgents had roles in recruiting young individuals for the RPF/PLA, extorting money from civilians and government officials, and intimidating parties during loan recovery disputes.
Among the detained militants, a self-styled Lieutenant of RPF/PLA, Khangembam Manglemba Singh, alias Sunny (46), was responsible for monitoring security personnel movements and relaying that information back to his group.
Additionally, security forces apprehended two drug peddlers, Mohammad Ethem Khan and Raju Khan, at their homes in Heingang, Imphal East district. Authorities recovered two kg of highly addictive methamphetamine tablets, with a street value exceeding Rs 6 crore, along with cash amounting to over Rs 38 lakh.
Manipur Police also arrested two individuals involved in extorting vehicles traveling along the Imphal-Dimapur National Highway (NH-2). They were identified as Sarangthem Dinesh Singh (29) and Khundrakpam Mohen Singh (25) and were apprehended in the Keinou bazar area of Bishnupur district. A two-wheeler and a mobile phone were also seized from them.
Authorities stated that operations and patrols continue in vulnerable areas across the districts.
Movement of 346 vehicles transporting essential goods along the Imphal-Jiribam National Highway (NH-37) has been secured without incidents.
To ensure the safe transit of vehicles, stringent security protocols have been implemented in all sensitive areas, with security convoys deployed on critical routes. A total of 115 checkpoints have been established across various districts in both hilly and valley regions to curb any illegal movements of suspicious elements and vehicles.
