Imphal, May 1 (NationPress) In the last 24 hours, security forces in Manipur apprehended six militants from various outfits, two wanted offenders, and four drug peddlers, along with a significant cache of weapons and assorted drugs, officials reported on Thursday.
A police spokesperson revealed that one of the arrested individuals, Waikhom Rohit Singh alias Phurupngakpa, 33, hails from Thoubal Pakhangkhong Leirak in Thoubal district and was detained in connection with an investigation led by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
Four militants linked to the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) were captured in Imphal West district, while one member each of the United People’s Party of Kangleipak (UPPK) and the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) were taken into custody from Imphal East and Kakching districts, respectively. A recovery of arms and ammunition, explosives, seven mobile phones, and cash was made from these militants.
Additionally, four drug peddlers were arrested from Imphal West and Tengnoupal district, which borders Myanmar. In Tengnoupal, police intercepted two vehicles, discovering three lakh highly addictive methamphetamine tablets, commonly known as Yaba or party tablets, hidden in specially modified compartments. This seizure is valued at several crores. Alongside this, Rs 2.6 lakh in cash, various Aadhaar cards, and other documents were also confiscated.
The arrested drug peddlers, identified as Paojathang Kipgen, 30, and Kamminlun Kipgen, 24, are residents of Govajang village in Tengnoupal.
In another operation in Imphal West, two more drug dealers were apprehended, leading to the recovery of 274.8 kg of ganja (marijuana), which was being transported in a truck. The individuals, Kayenbam Kenedi Singh, 36, and Keisam Sarat Singh, 55, were arrested.
Furthermore, Manipur Police detained one Sinthangamba Konsham Mangang (25), a Kabo Leikai resident in Thoubal District. He is known for his involvement in numerous mob-related activities across Manipur, which include an attack on the Thoubal District Superintendent of Police's office.
