New Delhi, Aug 6 (NationPress) The Lok Sabha has been adjourned until 2 p.m. on Wednesday due to ongoing disruptions caused by Opposition members protesting against the denial of multiple adjournment motion notices.
During the session, BJP MP Dilip Saikia informed the assembly that Speaker Om Birla had received various requests to suspend business in order to discuss urgent issues, including the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, but none were approved.
“The Speaker has not permitted the adjournment motions,” Saikia stated, which led to an immediate uproar from the Opposition benches.
Several MPs from the Opposition, including members from the Congress and Trinamool Congress, entered the Well of the House, chanting slogans.
Despite repeated pleas for order, the atmosphere became chaotic. Saikia urged members to maintain parliamentary decorum, emphasizing, “Daily disruptions are not suitable for the dignity of this House.”
He also appealed to the Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, to encourage cooperation among fellow MPs. However, the sloganeering persisted, compelling the Chair to adjourn the proceedings until 2 p.m.
Before the adjournment, Ministers of State Jitendra Singh, B.L. Verma, Satish Chandra Dubey, and George Kurian presented official documents.
BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai submitted reports from the Standing Committee on Labour, Textiles, and Skill Development.
Dubey also presented papers related to grants for the Ministry of Coal.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman provided a statement regarding Manipur’s estimated expenditure.
Earlier, during the morning session, Speaker Om Birla commenced Question Hour by calling on MP Naveen Jindal. Opposition members promptly protested, demanding the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the House.
Chants of “Pradhan Mantri Sadan mein aao” overshadowed BJP MP Arun Govil’s question.
Om Birla, visibly frustrated, warned, “If you do not wish for the House to function, I will adjourn,” and subsequently suspended proceedings until noon.
The Monsoon Session, plagued by frequent adjournments, continues to encounter legislative deadlock amid growing public concerns and halted discussions.
