Bhopal, March 5 (NationPress) Madhav National Park (MNP), located in the Shivpuri district of the Gwalior-Chambal region, is on the verge of being designated as the ninth Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh, as announced by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Wednesday.
CM Yadav emphasized that Madhya Pradesh maintains its reputation as the 'Tiger State' due to its highest number of tigers and is taking significant strides in the wildlife and tourism sectors.
"With eight existing Tiger Reserves in the state, the transformation of Madhav National Park in Shivpuri into the ninth reserve is imminent. I extend my congratulations to the people of the state for this accomplishment," stated Chief Minister Yadav.
The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) has already given its initial approval for Madhav National Park to be designated as a Tiger Reserve.
This approval was granted by the NTCA's Technical Committee on December 1 of the previous year, which also approved the introduction of one male and one female tiger into the park.
This initiative will enhance wildlife management in both Madhav and Kuno National Parks, while also generating ecotourism advantages for local communities, thereby contributing to regional development, according to CM Yadav.
"When I refer to Tiger Reserves, it encompasses tourism as well. All hotels, resorts, and other businesses surrounding these reserves are drawing increasing numbers of tourists," Yadav remarked.
The impending Tiger Reserve, encompassing Madhav National Park, will cover an area of 1,751 square kilometers, which includes a 375-square-kilometer core and a 1,276-square-kilometer buffer zone.
It is worth mentioning that the Ratapani Wildlife Sanctuary, situated between Bhopal and Raisen districts, was designated as the eighth Tiger Reserve just a few months ago, inaugurated by Chief Minister Yadav.
With this addition, Madhya Pradesh now has eight Tiger Reserves.
The existing reserves include: Kanha, Satpura, Bandhavgarh, Pench, Sanjay Dubri, Panna, Veerangana Durgavati, Ratapani, and now Madhav National Park.
