Mumbai, July 3 (NationPress) In a significant announcement on Thursday, Maharashtra's Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule revealed in the state Assembly that the government is actively considering a distinct policy aimed at facilitating the transportation of free sand to Gharkul scheme beneficiaries.
Bawankule further stated in the House that a Tehsildar had been suspended following a complaint related to sand transactions in the Tumsar Assembly constituency.
"We are unaware of who is misusing which names. If anyone is exploiting my name or the Chief Minister's name, please file an FIR at the police station. We will ensure such individuals face legal consequences," he cautioned.
The minister highlighted, "While Gharkul beneficiaries have received royalties, the pressing issue is – who will transport the sand to their residences? The cost of transportation ranges between Rs 30,000 to 40,000, which is unaffordable for the beneficiaries. Additionally, sand reserves are located far away, necessitating transportation over distances of 30-50 km."
In light of these challenges, the Revenue Department, alongside Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and the Finance Department, is in the process of devising a new 'Domestic Sand Transport Policy'.
Bawankule stated, "I will present a detailed plan regarding this before the end of the session. We aim to provide maximum support to Gharkul scheme beneficiaries to facilitate easy access to sand."
Previously, Minister Bawankule announced that the transportation of excavated sand would now be permitted for a full 24 hours after obtaining a valid transport permit in Maharashtra.
"As sand transportation has been restricted from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., the potential use of sand in the state has not been fully realized. Therefore, to encourage the optimal utilization of sand excavated from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., the government has decided to allow 24-hour transportation with a valid permit, subject to specific conditions. The facility for obtaining a valid permit will be available around the clock," he elaborated.
