Mumbai, July 29 (NationPress) Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, in collaboration with Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, reached a decision on Tuesday to provide support to ministers who have been in the limelight due to various controversies.
The leadership has opted against demanding resignations from these ministers, despite significant pressure from the opposition and numerous organizations. Instead, these ministers have received reprimands and directives to concentrate on their departmental responsibilities, steering clear of any statements that could ignite further disputes.
The ministers who have been granted this reprieve include Agriculture Minister Manikrao Kokate, School Education Minister Dadaji Bhuse, Social Justice Minister Sanjay Shirsat, Soil and Water Conservation Minister Sanjay Rathod, and Minister of State for Home Yogesh Kadam.
Kokate, who faced backlash for playing rummy in the state council and referring to the government as a beggar, met separately with Pawar and NCP National President Manikrao Kokate to defend his actions. Reports suggest Pawar admonished him for creating unnecessary controversies and instructed him to avoid repeating such behavior.
A senior minister from the MahaYuti coalition stated, “The Chief Minister has emphasized that all ministers must refrain from engaging with the media and should avoid making controversial remarks that could tarnish the government’s reputation and undermine its achievements. These ministers will retain their positions but are expected to focus on their departmental duties.”
Kokate previously made headlines over his remarks regarding farmers' crop insurance, stating, “Nowadays, even beggars do not accept a single rupee. However, we offered crop insurance to farmers for just one rupee. Some have exploited this scheme.”
In an attempt to clarify, Kokate later specified that it is the government, not the farmers, that is in a beggar-like situation.
Social Justice Minister Sanjay Shirsat faced scrutiny following a viral video of him beside a bag filled with cash in his bedroom. Additionally, the Leader of Opposition, Ambadas Danve, brought attention to the tender awarded to Shirsat's son for a hotel in Sambhajinagar, highlighting his ineligibility.
Though the minister’s son has since withdrawn from the tender process amid public outcry, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced an inquiry into the situation.
School Education Minister Dadaji Bhuse is under pressure from the opposition over alleged recruitment irregularities.
The ruling party also found itself in an uncomfortable position after Shiv Sena legislator Anil Parab made serious allegations against Yogesh Kadam, Minister of State for Home, regarding illegal sand trade and dance bar raids.
Responding to these allegations, Chief Minister Fadnavis indicated that if any evidence is substantiated, further action will be taken, while Kadam has asserted he will prove the accusations false at the appropriate moment.
Soil and Water Conservation Minister Sanjay Rathod garnered attention due to allegations of corruption in departmental appointments.
