Maharashtra: 106 Newly Elected Legislators Take Oath as MLAs

Mumbai, Dec 8 (NationPress) On the second day of the special session of the Maharashtra legislature, 106 newly elected members took their oath as Members of Legislative Assembly (MLA) on Sunday. A total of 173 MLAs were sworn in on the first day, bringing the total to 279 MLAs so far.
The remaining eight MLAs who were absent will take their oaths on Monday.
After the swearing-in of 106 legislators, the protem Speaker Kalidas Kolamkar adjourned the House for the day.
The proceedings commenced at 11 a.m. on the second day of the state assembly.
The Maha Vikas Aghadi had boycotted the oath-taking ceremony on Saturday. However, the state Congress president Nana Patole was the first to take the oath today.
Patole attempted to persuade the members of the Treasury bench while holding a copy of the Constitution.
Congress legislators Vijay Wadettiwar, Aslam Sheikh, and Jyoti Gaikwad completed their oaths while displaying a copy of the Constitution.
Several MLAs paid homage to saints and religious figures during their oath.
Aditya Thackeray, a legislator from Shiv Sena-UBT, drew attention in the House by chanting Jai Hind, Jai Maharashtra, and Vande Mataram.
Another Shiv Sena-UBT member, Sunil Prabhu, remembered the party's founder, Hinduhruday Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray.
BJP legislators Mangalprabhat Lodha and Satyajit Deshmukh took their oaths in Sanskrit.
Anup Aggarwal chose the Ahirani language of northern Maharashtra, while Sajid Khan opted for Hindi.
BJP's Gopinath Padalkar honored a prominent leader from the Dhangar community, whereas Shiv Sena legislator Murji Patel took his oath saying Jai Girnari.
MLAs from tribal areas, including Amshya Padavi, paid respect to tribal deities.
Many legislators also raised slogans like Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan during this event.
The name of former minister Babanrao Pachpute's son and newly elected legislator from Shrigonda, Vikram Pachpute, was initially missed in the list called by the Assembly secretary.
Protem Speaker Kalidas Kolambakar requested the secretary to correct the name from Vikas to Vikram, after which Vikram Pachpute took his oath.
Meanwhile, Uttamrao Jankar, Vilas Bhumre, Varun Sardesai, Manoj Jamsutkar, Vinay Kore, Jayant Patil, Shekhar Nikam, and Sunil Shelke were absent.
Among them, Jayant Patil from NCP-SP informed the Assembly secretariat that he would not be present due to his tour in Sangli district.
