Mumbai, Dec 21 (NationPress) The President of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee, Harshwardhan Sapkal, issued a fierce critique on Sunday regarding the management of the recently held nagar parishad and nagar panchayat elections in Maharashtra. He claimed that the success of the ruling Mahayuti coalition was primarily due to the "blessings" and backing of the Election Commission (EC).
Sapkal characterized the EC administration as "shambolic", expressing to reporters that the electoral process was plagued by significant confusion and numerous scheduling delays.
He contended that the elections were anything but "free and fair", alleging that the ruling Mahayuti coalition utilized tactics encapsulated in the phrase "Sama, Dana, Danda, Bheda" (persuasion, compensation, punishment, and division) to ensure their electoral victory.
According to him, the management by the EC was chaotic, resulting in disarray during the voting process. He pointed to rampant bogus voting, voter intimidation, and the overwhelming influence of "money power".
Sapkal accused the Election Commission of becoming a mere "puppet" under the control of the ruling Mahayuti government, assisting their triumph instead of serving as an impartial overseer.
He noted that public sentiment is deeply dissatisfied with the Mahayuti government led by the BJP, citing rampant corruption and failure to resolve civic challenges. He asserted that the results announced today do not accurately represent the people's true mandate, but rather are a consequence of the overt suppression of democracy and the Constitution. While the Congress did not meet its anticipated success due to these circumstances, he affirmed that their ideological battle to defend the Constitution will persist.
Sapkal remarked that the BJP's dominance in these elections serves as a "warning bell" for Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party.
He forecasted that, as part of the "Shat Pratishat BJP" (100 percent BJP) agenda, the BJP will ultimately marginalize its current allies in Maharashtra.
