Mumbai, July 16 (NationPress) The Congress lawmaker Nana Patole brought attention to the alleged honeytrap scandal aimed at Maharashtra’s high-ranking officials and politicians during a point of propriety on Wednesday.
Patole stated, “Reports suggest that high-ranking officials and politicians are being ensnared in a honeytrap scheme. This matter is of utmost seriousness. If confidential and sensitive information belonging to the state government is compromised through such honeytraps, it could lead to severe consequences. Therefore, it is imperative that the government acts swiftly and enforces strict measures regarding this issue.”
He also urged the Assembly Speaker, Rahul Narvekar, to instruct the government to take the necessary actions. Following this, the Speaker requested the government to acknowledge the issue raised by Patole and act accordingly.
Simultaneously, the NCP SP expressed deep concern over alarming media reports of a widespread 'honeytrap' scandal that has reportedly ensnared around 72 to 75 senior government officials, including Class One officers, law enforcement officials, and politicians throughout Maharashtra.
This clandestine operation allegedly spans major cities like Mumbai, Thane, Pune, and Nashik, jeopardizing the integrity of our state’s administration.
According to media reports, NCP SP spokesperson Tapase noted the troubling fact that high-ranking officials and politicians have seemingly fallen prey to this sophisticated extortion scheme. This situation raises significant concerns regarding the security and vulnerability of those responsible for governance within our state.
Tapase further emphasized that the NCP(SP) demands immediate and thorough clarification from the government on critical issues: “Why is the government silent on media reports alleging honeytrap incidents in Maharashtra? How did this extensive honeytrap operation manage to target such a significant number of prominent figures, including bureaucrats and politicians? Why did intelligence agencies fail to detect or intervene early? What strategies are being implemented to prevent such crimes in the future?” he inquired.
Reports suggest that the alleged 'mastermind' behind this scheme originates from Nashik and is a former political party office-bearer.
“The method involves individuals presenting themselves as distressed persons, gaining trust through both digital and personal interactions, and subsequently recording compromising photos and videos for blackmail purposes, often accompanied by threats of false rape accusations. This indicates a highly organized criminal network,” he explained.
He insisted that the public deserves complete transparency regarding the ongoing investigation. What measures is the government taking to ensure swift justice and to hold all offenders accountable? He added that the trust placed by the citizens of our state in our administrative leadership is vital, and if these allegations prove true, it has significantly undermined that trust.
