What Steps is the Govt Taking for the Welfare of the Underprivileged Inspired by Ahilyadevi Holkar?

Ahilyanagar (Maharashtra), May 31 (NationPress) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated on Saturday that the contributions and principles of Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar continue to influence the state administration. He emphasized her establishment of a just system and her efforts to aid those wronged by injustice.

“In alignment with her values of public service and governance, the state will strive for the upliftment of the underprivileged,” remarked the Maharashtra CM during the celebration of Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar's Tricentenary Birth Anniversary at Shrikshetra Chondi.

CM Fadnavis highlighted that Ahilyadevi's reign extended for 28 years.

Her impact was revolutionary, spanning political, social, economic, religious, and cultural dimensions. She dedicated herself to the restoration of temples, the construction of ghats, the establishment of dharamshalas, and the creation of water supply systems to empower the poor and women.

“Using her personal resources, Ahilyadevi Holkar renovated sacred sites nationwide, including Kashi, Ayodhya, Mathura, Pandharpur, Nashik, and Jejuri. She was instrumental in rebuilding the Somnath temple. Her charitable endeavors were funded from her own wealth, reflecting her commitment to societal welfare rather than personal gain... thus earning her the title of Lok Mata,” stated the Maharashtra Chief Minister.

To generate employment opportunities for the impoverished, Ahilyadevi Holkar established a significant textile industry center in Maheshwar, paving the way for Maheshwari Textiles.

She fostered a thriving economy and was the first female monarch to form a distinct unit of female soldiers. Her army was marked by discipline and skill, and she initiated the production of indigenous cannons in preparation for warfare. Her approach to justice was notably progressive.

“Ahilyadevi's exemplary justice system was firmly entrenched. She advocated for the unjust and prohibited dowries, striving to enhance women's lives,” the Maharashtra CM remarked.

He further noted that the biography, contributions, and principles of Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar remain impactful and motivational even after 300 years.

“To commemorate her birth tercentenary, the government has formulated a development plan amounting to Rs 681 crore. The cabinet has resolved to construct a grand memorial in her honor, named 'Adishakti Abhiyan,' aimed at women’s empowerment, alongside a multilingual film based on her life. This initiative will disseminate her legacy across the nation,” he added.

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde remarked that the birthplace of Punyashlok Ahilyadevi, Chaundi, embodies the vibrant essence of Marathi culture. He acknowledged that Ahilyadevi exemplified a welfare state and effective governance.

“Ahilyadevi dedicated her life to the advancement of common people and the protection of faith. Her visionary approach led to the establishment of a military unit for women, empowering them to confront injustice,” he concluded.
