Mumbai, April 17 (NationPress) In a significant move for higher education, Maharashtra's Minister of Higher and Technical Education, Chandrakant Patil, announced on Friday that the state government is taking decisive action to accelerate the rollout of the four-year undergraduate program. This program marks a pivotal shift in the educational landscape.

During a discussion organized by the Higher and Technical Education Department, Patil revealed that a mandatory three-day online training program will be instituted for all principals, directors, and faculty members across the state. This initiative aims to ensure the effective integration of Honours and Honours with Research courses into the academic framework.

The Minister emphasized that this training is essential for the uniform implementation of the new academic structure in colleges, thereby preventing any academic or administrative challenges that may arise during the transition.

Patil highlighted that this initiative represents a critical step towards enhancing the flexibility and research orientation of higher education in line with the National Education Policy 2020.

The introduction of the fourth year in the four-year undergraduate program will commence in the academic year 2026–2027, enabling students to explore Honours and Honours with Research tracks for advanced studies.

This new academic structure will incorporate a credit system, options for multiple entries and exits, and the Academic Bank of Credits.

According to the Minister, it is vital for educators and administrators to comprehensively understand these changes. The specialized training program is designed to facilitate this understanding.

This initiative is expected to equip students in the state with access to quality education that emphasizes skills and research.

Additionally, it aims to foster improvements throughout the higher education system.
