Helsinki, Oct 2 (NationPress) Indian missions across the globe are actively hosting events to honor Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion of his 156th birth anniversary this Thursday. Members of the Indian diaspora residing internationally are also joining in to express their respects for Mahatma Gandhi.

Gandhi Jayanti not only celebrates Mahatma Gandhi's enduring dedication to truth, non-violence, and social justice but also marks the International Day of Non-Violence, recognized worldwide to propagate this vital message.

The Indian Ambassador to Finland, Hemant Kotalwar, along with Embassy officials and local community members, paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, followed by a heartfelt rendition of 'Vaishnav Jan'. In his address, Kotalwar drew parallels between the Finnish concept of Sisu and Gandhi's teachings, emphasizing that true strength stems from resilience, courage, and determination, rather than force.

In a post on X, the Indian Embassy in Finland articulated, "Commemorating the 156th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Ambassador Hemant Kotalwar, alongside city officials and community members, paid floral homage, followed by a rendition of 'Vaishnav Jan', reflecting Gandhiji's values of peace, truth, and non-violence. The Ambassador underscored that true strength lies in resilience and courage, inspiring Indians to stand against the formidable British Empire."

In Romania, Ambassador Manoj Kumar Mohapatra unveiled a bust of Mahatma Gandhi at the Embassy, with numerous officials and community members paying their respects.

"On Gandhi Ji’s 156th birth anniversary, Amb. Manoj Kumar Mohapatra unveiled his bust at the Embassy of India in Romania, accompanied by the Indian community and friends of India in honoring his legacy of truth and non-violence," the Indian Embassy in Romania shared on X.

The Consulate General of India in Edinburgh, along with the Indian diaspora, celebrated Gandhi Jayanti and the International Day of Non-Violence at Saughton Park, Edinburgh, with the Lord Provost of Edinburgh present.

"The Consulate General of India, Edinburgh, and the Indian diaspora celebrated Gandhi Jayanti on his 156th birth anniversary & the International Day of Non-Violence at Saughton Park, Edinburgh, honoring Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals of peace and non-violence that continue to inspire humanity. Special thanks to Lord Provost of Edinburgh Robert Aldridge for his presence," stated the Consulate General of India in Scotland on X.

The Indian Embassy in Belarus also marked Gandhi Jayanti at their premises, where Ambassador Ashok Kumar and Ambassador Serghei Terentiev from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs laid floral tributes. A soulful bhajan, 'Vaishnav Jan', performed by a Belarusian student, echoed the day's spirit.

In Milan, the Consulate General of India, along with the municipality of Turin, commemorated Gandhi Jayanti in Turin, with the local Indian community paying tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.

"The Indian Consulate, in partnership with the Municipality of Turin, joyously commemorated Gandhi Jayanti on 02 October 2025 at Piazza Cavour 3, Turin. Consul Mr. Atul Chauhan and Mr. Luca Pidello, Councilor for Human Rights, offered floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation. The vibrant Indian community in Turin also participated in this heartfelt remembrance," as shared by the Consulate General of India in Milan on X.

In Bulgaria, Ambassador Arun Sahu honored Mahatma Gandhi on his 156th birth anniversary, posting, "Paying floral tribute to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, on his birth anniversary" on X.

In Turkey, Ambassador Muktesh Pardeshi unveiled a bust of Mahatma Gandhi at the Embassy in Ankara and initiated a tree plantation drive and 'shramdaan' in the Embassy garden.

On the auspicious occasion of the 156th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Ambassador Muktesh Pardeshi unveiled a bust of Mahatma Gandhi at the Embassy of India in Ankara, paying rich tribute to our beloved leader. He also remembered the support Mahatma Gandhi provided during Turkey's struggle for independence," the Indian Embassy in Turkey shared on X.

"Members of the Indian Diaspora, Turkish friends, and Embassy officials gathered for this commemorative ceremony. A tree plantation drive and 'shramdaan' were also executed in the Embassy garden, with over six dozen trees planted under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign," they added.
