Chandigarh, Dec 19 (NationPress) The chief spokesperson of the Punjab Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Kuldeep Dhaliwal, stated on Friday that the Supreme Court's decision to set January 19 for the hearing of Bikram Majithia’s bail application represents a significant legal challenge for the Akali Dal leader.
He noted that following the High Court's decision, the apex court has also refrained from granting any relief to the Akali figure.
The Supreme Court has consented to examine Majithia’s plea that contests the Punjab and Haryana High Court’s ruling, which denied him bail concerning a case of disproportionate assets.
In addition, Dhaliwal remarked to reporters that Majithia has not only faced a legal setback but also a substantial political defeat. In his constituency of Majitha, traditionally viewed as a bastion for the Shiromani Akali Dal, voters have decisively turned away from him during the Zila Parishad and Block Samiti elections. By capturing three out of four Zila Parishad seats in Majitha, AAP has effectively dismantled the Akalis' 50-year reign. Achieving a clear majority in the Block Samiti is also a historic milestone.
He mentioned that in Tarn Taran and Amritsar, the Akali Dal attempted to influence the elections with the assistance of gangsters, but the peace-loving citizens of Punjab thwarted this plot.
“Previously, we secured 16 Assembly seats in Majha, but given the overwhelming public support we are experiencing now, AAP is poised to win over 21 seats in the 2027 elections and establish a new record. The entirety of Punjab stands united for governance devoid of corruption and violence,” he declared.
Focusing on the Congress party, Dhaliwal asserted that prominent leaders such as Pratap Singh Bajwa and Sukhjinder Randhawa were mistaken to believe that AAP was weak in Majha. They deployed all their resources, but AAP successfully countered the Congress's arrogance. Out of a total of 79 Zila Parishad seats, AAP has achieved a remarkable victory, winning 58 seats.
He concluded by stating that the manner in which the people of Majha have endorsed the policies of Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann signifies the decline of traditional political parties in Punjab. The results from these elections indicate a likely AAP government once again in 2027.
