Kolkata, Dec 2 (NationPress) Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee declared on Tuesday that just as Prime Minister Narendra Modi represents the BJP, Mamata Banerjee embodies the essence of the Trinamool Congress.
Kalyan emphasized that Mamata Banerjee holds the ultimate authority in the party's internal matters.
While refraining from naming anyone specifically, he made it clear that Mamata Banerjee is the true face of the party, contrasting with the role of General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee.
In response to the rebel MLA from Bharatpur, Humayun Kabir, and his intention to lay the foundation for the Babri Masjid in Murshidabad district, Banerjee stated, “As long as PM Modi is present, the lotus will flourish. If he departs, no lotus will bloom. This is how it is with our Mamata Banerjee. As long as Mamata is around, no one can act against her wishes. The party functions under her name, and the opinions of others are inconsequential.”
Previously, Kalyan had asserted, "My leader is Mamata Banerjee. I cannot comprehend anything before or after her. She is my sole leader."
Historically, there has been a rift within the party between the older and younger factions, a topic that has resurfaced frequently in Bengal politics.
General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee had also advocated for establishing an age limit within the party, asserting that an upper age limit exists in politics as well. However, this did not quell the ongoing debates.
Union Minister of State for Education and DoNER, Sukanta Majumdar, commented, "Numerous senior leaders like Kalyan Banerjee continue to support Mamata Banerjee. Abhishek Banerjee's statements are not erroneous. In Trinamool, only one position holds significance."
