Kolkata, July 29 (NationPress) Kunal Ghosh, the General Secretary of the Trinamool Congress in West Bengal, asserted on Tuesday that irrespective of the voter's list utilized, Mamata Banerjee is poised to reclaim her position as the Chief Minister of West Bengal following the 2026 Assembly elections, with the party anticipated to secure over 250 seats in the 294-seat Assembly.
Ghosh's remarks followed the request made by the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) and BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari to the Election Commission of India, seeking action against Chief Minister Banerjee for allegedly intimidating Booth Level Officers (BLO).
In response to Adhikari's correspondence to the Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar, Ghosh indicated that BJP leaders are expressing frustration due to their dwindling chances of victory in the upcoming elections.
"With an impending loss in sight, BJP leaders are once again attempting to manipulate the Election Commission of India to undertake measures favoring them. This pattern has been observed in previous elections, and each time, the Trinamool Congress has emerged stronger," Ghosh highlighted.
Expressing confidence in the Trinamool Congress defeating the BJP in the forthcoming Assembly elections, Ghosh remarked that LoP Adhikari was merely imagining outcomes.
"They (BJP) fail to grasp the desires of the people of Bengal. The Election Commission of India is being politically manipulated. After we voiced our concerns, the Supreme Court and other courts have noted that no legitimate voters should be excluded from any voter's list. Regardless of the list in use, Mamata Banerjee will indeed become the Chief Minister after securing over 250 seats for her party," he added.
In the 2021 Assembly elections, the Trinamool Congress achieved a victory in 213 seats, while the BJP claimed 77 seats.
On Tuesday, LoP Adhikari penned a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner, urging action against Chief Minister Banerjee for purportedly making unauthorized attempts to disrupt the electoral process through "intimidation and malicious influence" on the BLOs within the state.
Amid speculations of a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of West Bengal's electoral roll occurring in August, the 2002 voters' list for several districts has been uploaded online on the State's Chief Electoral Officer's (CEO) website.
The last SIR of the voters' list in West Bengal was conducted in 2002.
