Kolkata, April 10 (NationPress) A lawyer based in Delhi has issued a contempt of court notice to West Bengal's Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee following her remarks regarding the Supreme Court's ruling from last week. This ruling upheld a prior decision by the Calcutta High Court that annulled a total of 25,753 teaching and non-teaching positions due to the state government and commission's failure to distinguish between 'genuine' candidates and those deemed 'tainted'.
The advocate, Siddhartha Datta, contends that all individuals are obliged to adhere to the apex court's directives, and the Chief Minister's recent comments suggest a reluctance to enforce the ruling.
In his legal notice, the advocate asserts that unless the Chief Minister retracts her statements and issues an apology, legal action will follow.
In response to the notice, Kunal Ghosh, the state general secretary of the Trinamool Congress, stated that the legal notice aims to obstruct and delay the humanitarian efforts initiated by the Chief Minister and her government to safeguard the interests of those who lost their jobs.
Ghosh also insinuated that the BJP and Left Parties are working behind the scenes to sow discord in this matter.
He remarked, "Ram-Bam (referring to BJP & Left) have failed in elections, and now they attempt to create legal challenges. The Chief Minister respects the judiciary and its judges, and differing with a verdict that adversely affects many does not constitute contempt of court," Ghosh asserted.
He further implied that when a judge, such as Abhijit Gangopadhyay, a former Calcutta High Court judge and now a BJP candidate, leaves their judicial post for politics, it raises questions about their impartiality.
Ghosh has urged job losers to choose between supporting the Chief Minister's 'humanitarian' measures or aligning with those who seek to create legal obstacles.
