Kolkata, Nov 5 (NationPress) In a disturbing incident, a customer has reportedly killed a tea shop owner over dissatisfaction with the biscuit he received, as confirmed by an official on Wednesday, who also stated that the suspect has been taken into custody.
The tragic event occurred on November 4 in the Khalerpool locality of Raina, situated in West Bengal’s East Burdwan district. The police apprehended Hossain Mollah on Wednesday after the tea shop owner passed away from his injuries while receiving medical care.
The victim has been identified as Farid Ali Sheikh, 50, a tea vendor residing in Machkhanda village in Raina. His tea stall was located in the Khalerpool area.
On that day, several regular patrons were at the tea stall when Hossain Mollah, a mason and a frequent visitor, requested tea along with a biscuit. However, he later voiced complaints about the biscuit's poor taste and initiated an argument with the shopkeeper. After some time, other customers intervened to diffuse the situation.
Later, Mollah returned armed with a bamboo stick, and before Sheikh could comprehend the unfolding events, Mollah reportedly began to attack him mercilessly.
Local residents quickly transported Sheikh to Burdwan Medical College and Hospital, and he was subsequently moved to another facility near Nawabhat, where he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday morning.
Farid's son, Sheikh Syed Ahmed, shared: "Hossain Mollah frequently visited my father’s shop for tea, but he never paid. He always had an excuse. On Tuesday morning, he left without settling his bill. After he argued about the biscuit, he demanded a refund. Even though the locals had resolved the matter, he returned with a bamboo stick and struck my father on the head."
The police have stated that Mollah has been arrested following a complaint filed by the family. The body has been sent for an autopsy, and further investigations are currently in progress.
