Mumbai, Nov 11 (NationPress) Designer Manish Malhotra recently disclosed that actress Fatima Sana Shaikh was his top pick for the leading role in the upcoming film “Gustaakh Ishq - Kucch Pehle Jaisa.”
At the trailer launch event for the film, the designer-turned-producer elaborated on his vision for her character, expressing a desire to depict Fatima as a traditional ‘heroine’—embodying grace, sophistication, and vintage charm. “She’s never come as a ‘heroine’—with the dupatta and nazaakat,” Manish remarked, sharing his enthusiasm about revealing a fresh aspect of the actress in this role.
Reflecting on the casting discussions, Manish noted, “The conversation went on, and I questioned, why not Fatima? She’s petite and beautiful. Although she has played remarkable roles, she has never portrayed a 'heroine'—with the dupatta and nazaakat.”
“So, I texted her, and she was very receptive. She requested the script, which I sent her around 8 PM. Just as I was going to bed at about 11:30 PM, I received a message from her saying, 'I'm doing the film.' We had extensive discussions.”
Making his debut as a producer, Manish also discussed the reasoning behind casting Vijay for the project. “Vibhu and my team had numerous discussions about the cast. I think we were at my atelier when Vijay’s name was suggested, and I believed he would be ideal since they were familiar with each other. I knew Vijay, but not as closely as I do now. Moreover, he is an intense actor, and I thought he would excel in a romantic role because an actor is an actor, and Vijay possesses the height and look, everything needed.”
