New Delhi, Sep 4 (NationPress) The supremo of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Mayawati, on Thursday urged both the central and state governments to take immediate and thorough actions to assist families impacted by the extensive floods, landslides, and waterlogging that have affected numerous regions in the country.
In a powerful statement shared on X, the former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh highlighted that the relentless heavy rains have resulted in significant devastation and distress for both rural and urban communities in states including Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Assam.
She pointed out that rural regions are experiencing widespread destruction of lives, property, and livestock, while urban areas such as Gurugram and Noida are facing severe waterlogging challenges.
“Millions of families are enduring significant hardships and economic strain,” Mayawati stated.
The BSP chief also appreciated the community spirit shown by citizens who have rallied together to offer food, shelter, and other forms of assistance.
She referred to this as “a beacon of hope in difficult times” and a commendable demonstration of human compassion.
However, Mayawati emphasized that such crises highlight the necessity for governments to respond with genuine humanitarian concern.
“The central and relevant state administrations should take immediate action to provide all forms of support to the affected families, fulfilling their public responsibilities with utmost sincerity and compassion,” she insisted.
Beyond just immediate aid, she called on policymakers to prioritize preventive measures and long-term strategies.
“Moreover, governments must consistently concentrate on ensuring all essential public services for the future, so that public issues do not remain unresolved and complicated each year...,” she warned.
Mayawati further emphasized the importance of safeguarding the livelihoods of millions, including farmers, laborers, and impoverished communities, through proactive infrastructure and disaster management initiatives.
Her comments come as various states in Northern India grapple with swollen rivers, breached levees, and recurring urban floods, which have displaced thousands of people and raised concerns regarding disaster preparedness.
