Meeting Between South Korean Leader and Ruling Party Chief Prior to Impeachment Vote

Seoul, December 6 (NationPress) President Yoon Suk Yeol of South Korea convened with Han Dong-hoon, the leader of the ruling People Power Party (PPP), on Friday, as reported by sources, in preparation for a parliamentary vote concerning an impeachment motion aimed at Yoon due to his martial law declaration.
The meeting, which took place at the presidential residence, was initiated by Yoon and included Chung Jin-suk, Yoon's chief of staff, along with PPP lawmaker Joo Jin-woo, according to the Yonhap news agency.
It is likely that their conversation centered on subsequent actions following Yoon's brief martial law decree issued on Tuesday.
On Thursday, Han stated that he would strive to prevent the impeachment motion. However, he altered his position overnight, advocating for the immediate suspension of Yoon's powers, revealing that Yoon had instructed the arrest of notable politicians during the now-retracted martial law declaration.
To impeach Yoon, a two-thirds majority vote is required within the 300-member National Assembly, meaning that at least eight votes from the ruling party, which holds 108 seats, must be secured for the motion to succeed.
