Leader of South Korea's Ruling Party Backs Impeachment of President Yoon

Seoul, Dec 12 (NationPress) Han Dong-hoon, the leader of South Korea's ruling People Power Party (PPP), on Thursday voiced his support for the impeachment of President Yoon Suk Yeol following his announcement of martial law last week. He urged lawmakers in his party to cast their votes based on their own conviction.

These comments came as the opposition Democratic Party (DP) prepares to introduce a new impeachment motion after a previous parliamentary vote failed due to a boycott by the majority of PPP lawmakers, as reported by Yonhap news agency.

"We must put an end to the ongoing confusion. There is only one effective approach now," Han stated during a press conference. "In the upcoming impeachment vote, our party's lawmakers should attend the assembly hall and participate in the vote according to their own conviction and conscience."

When questioned about his stance on Yoon's impeachment, Han confirmed, "Yes," emphasizing that there is no alternative.

Han pointed out that Yoon has no plans to resign early from his position, effectively reneging on his commitment to allow the PPP to make all decisions, including his term, during his address last Saturday.
