South Korea: Ruling Party Chief Declares Early Resignation of President Yoon Inevitable

Seoul, Dec 7 (NationPress) The chief of the ruling People Power Party (PPP) stated on Saturday that President Yoon Suk Yeol is likely to resign ahead of schedule.
Han Dong-hoon informed reporters, "An early resignation (of Yoon) is unavoidable," emphasizing that the President is no longer positioned to carry out his responsibilities effectively, according to reports from Yonhap news agency.
These remarks came after Yoon's national address, where he indicated that he would leave the decision about his term's future to the PPP, as the opposition-led National Assembly is poised to vote on a motion for his impeachment later today due to the recent martial law controversy.
When questioned regarding the potential for amending the Constitution to shorten the presidential term, Han stated that the party will consider and discuss the most appropriate steps moving forward.
Han, a former prosecutor and an ally of Yoon, also mentioned his intention to confer with the Prime Minister on critical issues, especially those affecting the public's well-being, to lessen any possible repercussions.
