Imphal, April 7 (NationPress) Two organizations representing the Meitei community, who participated in the tripartite meeting on April 5 in New Delhi, reaffirmed their dedication to uphold the desires of the Manipur populace in any forthcoming peace endeavors.

The six delegates from the All Manipur United Clubs Organisation (AMUCO) and the Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS) attended the meeting, which was convened by the Ministry of Home Affairs in the capital.

During a press conference at the Manipur Press Club, AMUCO President Pheiroijam Nando Luwang characterized the recent discussions as a pivotal move towards establishing a framework for peace and coexistence in the state.

He highlighted that these dialogues signify an essential beginning in the quest for enduring stability in the region.

BM Yaima Shah, acting President of FOCS, reiterated Luwang’s sentiments, firmly asserting that the territorial integrity of Manipur remains untouchable.

Both AMUCO and FOCS have committed to persist in their endeavors for a peaceful and equitable outcome, unwavering in their mission to safeguard the unity and interests of Manipur.

Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) Chairman Henlianthang Thanglet led an eight-member team of Kuki-Zo-Hmar communities in the meeting, which included MHA advisor for the northeastern region, A.K. Mishra, Joint Director of MHA, Rajesh Kamble, Manipur Chief Secretary Prashant Kumar Singh, and Additional Director General of Manipur Police Ashutosh Kumar Sinha, among others.

The leaders from both AMUCO and FOCS expressed that they would adhere to the wishes of the Manipur citizens.

The Meitei organizations, including the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), the premier body of the Meitei Community, have been advocating for actions against Kuki militants, the dismantling of militant camps, the suppression of drug issues, actions against infiltrators from Myanmar, and the introduction of the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

Meanwhile, the KZC and 10 tribal MLAs are requesting a distinct administration equivalent to a Union Territory for areas dominated by Kuki-Zo-Hmar tribes.

To address the 23-month-long ethnic tensions, the inaugural tripartite meeting between MHA officials and representatives of the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities took place in New Delhi on April 5.
