Imphal, Feb 25 (NationPress) In a noteworthy event, a group representing the “Arambai Tenggol”, a radical Meitei organization, engaged with Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Tuesday to present a 9-point demand aimed at addressing the ongoing ethnic conflict in the region.
The delegation, led by Public Relations Officer Robin Mangang Khwairakpam, called upon the Governor to advocate for their demands with the relevant authorities, including the Central government, to expedite the resolution of the 21-month conflict.
The group seeks the introduction of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) using 1951 as the base year, the deportation of illegal immigrants, the annulment of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with militant groups, the eradication of poppy plantations, and the reinstatement of Scheduled Tribe (ST) status for the Meitei (Meetei) community.
Additionally, they have requested the revocation of ST status from illegal immigrants, protection for Village Volunteers, including those from ‘Arambai Tenggol’, from any arrest or legal actions by any Commission, Tribunal, Court, or other authorities.
The organization also advocates for an amendment to the Manipur Land Reforms and Land Records Act 1960 to ensure equitable enforcement in both hill and valley regions.
Since the outbreak of ethnic tensions in Manipur between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo-Hmar tribes, this marks the first instance of the “Arambai Tenggol” presenting their demands to the Governor and urging action from relevant authorities and the Centre to swiftly resolve these ethnic disputes.
In related news, local media reports indicate that two militant groups—the Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) and the People’s Liberation Army (PLA)—celebrated their 46th foundation day on Tuesday in concealed locations.
These groups have been advocating for a sovereign Manipur. During the commemorations, flags and banners were exhibited across various secret spots, following directives from the RPF Central Bureau and its branches.
On this occasion, RPF Acting President MM Ngouba addressed the populace of Manipur via an official message, reaffirming the organization’s steadfast commitment to their quest for independence.
“He honored the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the nation, urging the community to remain united and determined in their quest for freedom,” the reports indicated.
