What Happened in Colorado After Two Small Planes Collided?

Washington, Sep 1 (NationPress) A tragic incident occurred when two small aircraft collided in midair at a Colorado airport, resulting in the death of one individual and injuries to three others.

The collision involved a Cessna 172 and an Extra EA-300, each carrying two people, as both pilots attempted to land simultaneously at the Fort Morgan Municipal Airport on Sunday, as reported by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the New York Post.

According to the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, one passenger on the Extra EA-300 was pronounced dead at the scene, while another was transported to a local hospital; their condition remains uncertain.

The occupants of the Cessna 172 suffered minor injuries and received on-site treatment. Following the accident, one of the planes erupted in flames, but further details about the aircraft were not disclosed. The FAA, along with the National Transportation Safety Board, is set to initiate an investigation into the collision.

Both aircraft were left severely damaged, with one plane reduced to ashes and charred remains, while the other was left with only its tail, a wing, and a single tire visible amidst the debris, as reported by the New York Post and 9News. Bystanders bravely attempted to assist amidst the flames and smoke.

Officials from the MCSO expressed their condolences, stating, "We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the victim in this heartbreaking incident. We also appreciate the efforts of those who tried to extinguish the fire until emergency responders arrived."

Earlier in August, a separate incident involving a small single-engine plane occurred at Montana’s Kalispell City Airport, where an aircraft carrying four people crashed into a parked plane during landing, igniting a significant fire but fortunately causing no serious injuries, according to local authorities.

Initial findings from the Kalispell Police Department and the FAA indicate that the pilot lost control during landing, leading to the plane skidding off the runway and colliding with parked aircraft, resulting in a fire that spread to surrounding areas.

Despite the chaos, all four passengers were able to exit the aircraft independently after it came to rest. Kalispell Police Chief Jordan Venezio confirmed that two passengers suffered minor injuries and received treatment on-site, while multiple grounded aircraft were damaged in the blaze. Firefighters successfully contained the fire before it could spread further.
