Kolkata, Nov 1 (NationPress) - Two minor boys are accused of sexually assaulting their fellow classmate, who is also a minor, at the residence of a home tutor in Suri, located in the Birbhum district of West Bengal, according to police reports on Saturday.
Authorities revealed that the incident took place on Friday evening when a ninth-grade student left her home before 7 p.m. after receiving a call from a peer. Upon arriving at the tutor’s house, she found only two classmates there, with the teacher absent.
The police stated that the boys had allegedly invited the girl to the tutor’s residence approximately an hour before the scheduled class, where they proceeded to assault her within the lesson room.
“After returning home at night, the 14-year-old girl became distressed and disclosed the incident to her parents,” a senior officer from Birbhum district police reported. “Following her complaint, both boys were detained and subsequently presented before the Suri Juvenile Justice Board in the afternoon,” the officer added.
A case has been filed at Suri police station under Sections 4 and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Initial investigations indicated that the accused had misled the girl by claiming that the tutor requested her to arrive early for the 7 p.m. class, despite the tutor not being present at that time. The educator had designated a room at his home for tuition classes. The two boys exploitatively took advantage of the tutor’s absence to commit the assault.
The complaint lodged by the girl’s mother noted that her daughter, a ninth-grade student, regularly attended tuition sessions nearby with other children. The tutor typically conducted classes for ninth graders starting at 8 p.m., but the girl left home early on Friday, believing the teacher had summoned her for an advanced lesson.
Police confirmed that the girl has undergone a medical examination and that her confidential statement under Section 164 of the CrPC will be taken before a judicial magistrate on Monday.
Officials stated that the investigation is ongoing and further legal measures will follow based on the outcomes of the medical and forensic evaluations.
