A high-ranking official stated that the APEDA (Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority), in partnership with Mizoram’s Department of Horticulture, facilitated the launch of the inaugural consignment of Anthurium flowers from Aizawl to Singapore on Wednesday.
APEDA Chairman Abhishek Dev along with Ramdinliani, Special Secretary of the Department of Horticulture, Mizoram, officiated the flag-off of the first Anthurium flower consignment from Mizoram to Singapore.
According to the official report, a total of 1008 cut Anthurium flowers were shipped in 50 corrugated boxes by IVC Agrovet Pvt. Ltd from Aizawl to Singapore via air through Kolkata, and received by Veg Pro Singapore Pte. Ltd. The Anthurium flowers were obtained from the Zo Anthurium Growers Cooperative Society in Aizawl.
Anthurium is regarded as one of the most significant flowers in Mizoram, fostering economic activities through its cultivation and export. The growth of Anthurium creates income opportunities for local farmers, especially women.
The annual Anthurium Festival serves as a crucial event in Mizoram, designed to promote tourism and highlight the flower's attractiveness. The fiscal year 2023-24 witnessed floriculture exports from India amounting to 86.62 USD Million.
This inaugural shipment of Anthurium from Mizoram to Singapore is a direct result of the International Conclave and Buyer Seller Meet organized by APEDA in conjunction with the Mizoram government on December 6 of the previous year in Aizawl.
The event attracted nine international buyers from various countries including Singapore, UAE, Nepal, Jordan, Oman, Azerbaijan, Russia, Ethiopia and 24 domestic exporters. APEDA prioritizes promoting the products of the northeastern region and will continue to emphasize capacity building, quality enhancement, and infrastructure development in the area.
Connecting buyers with farmers and strengthening the entire supply chain is anticipated to yield improved outcomes in the near future.
