Washington, July 25 (NationPress) US Secretary of State Marco Rubio criticized French President Emmanuel Macron’s decision to officially acknowledge the state of Palestine, branding it a “reckless decision”.

“The United States firmly opposes Emmanuel Macron’s initiative to recognize a Palestinian state at the UN General Assembly. This reckless decision only fuels Hamas propaganda and undermines peace efforts. It is a direct affront to the victims of October 7,” Rubio remarked on Friday in a post on X.

This statement followed Macron’s announcement regarding France’s official recognition of the Palestinian state.

“In line with its longstanding commitment to a just and enduring peace in the Middle East, I have decided that France will recognize the State of Palestine. I will make this solemn announcement before the United Nations General Assembly this coming September. The urgent priority today is to halt the war in Gaza and provide relief to the civilian population,” Macron expressed on his social media.

In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the decision, asserting, “This move rewards terror and poses the risk of creating another Iranian proxy.”

“We strongly denounce President Macron’s decision to recognize a Palestinian state adjacent to Tel Aviv following the October 7 massacre. Such a step only rewards terrorism and threatens to establish another Iranian proxy, similar to Gaza. Under these circumstances, a Palestinian state would serve as a launch pad for annihilating Israel — not for peaceful coexistence. Let’s be clear: the Palestinians do not aspire for a state alongside Israel; they aim for a state instead of Israel,” Netanyahu stated in a post on X.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar issued a strongly-worded statement, declaring, “The French President's attempt to forge an illusionary arrangement in our land is absurd and not serious. His statement this evening indicates that all the conditions he previously outlined have vanished. What remains is an illusory state he aims to create.”

“A Palestinian state will be a Hamas state, just as the withdrawal from the Gaza Strip two decades ago allowed Hamas to seize control,” Sa'ar reiterated.

Meanwhile, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz labeled the move “a disgrace and a capitulation to terrorism.”

“Macron's announcement regarding his intention to recognize a Palestinian state is a disgrace and a concession to terrorism, rewarding the perpetrators of the most horrific massacre of the Jewish people since the Holocaust. Rather than supporting Israel during this critical time, the French president is taking steps to weaken it,” the Israeli Defence Minister stated.

“We will not permit the establishment of a Palestinian entity that jeopardizes our security, threatens our existence, and undermines our historical right to the Land of Israel. We are united in our mission to avert this grave danger,” he concluded.

Point of View

It's vital to recognize the complexities surrounding international diplomacy. While Macron's decision aims to address humanitarian concerns, it raises critical questions about security and regional stability. A balanced approach is essential to foster dialogue and understanding between all parties involved.
