Mumbai, July 26 (NationPress) Television mogul Ekta Kapoor has made a formal announcement clarifying that neither she nor her mother Shobha Kapoor holds any association with ALTT in "any capacity."
This declaration comes in the wake of the government's decision to ban ALTT, ULLU, Desiflix, and 23 other OTT platforms due to their dissemination of soft pornographic content.
Ekta shared her statement on Instagram, noting, "Balaji Telefilms Limited, which is listed on both the BSE and NSE, is a professionally managed media entity. Following the recent amalgamation of ALT Digital Media Entertainment Ltd. (formerly its wholly owned subsidiary), approved by the Hon’ble NCLT, it has operated ALTT since June 20, 2025."
She emphasized that neither she nor Shobha has any ties to ALTT and that they both distanced themselves from the company in 2021.
The statement further articulated: "While media reports suggest that ALTT has been disabled by authorities, it is important to clarify that Ms. Ekta Kapoor and Mrs. Shobha Kapoor are not connected to ALTT in any way and severed their association back in June 2021."
“Any insinuation that contradicts these facts is firmly rejected, and we request the media to report the actual facts. Balaji Telefilms Limited adheres to all applicable laws and continues to operate its business with the highest standards of corporate governance,” concluded the statement.
The post was captioned: “To whomsoever it may concern.”
On July 25, to combat unlawful and obscene content, the government instructed Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to disable public access to 25 OTT platforms, including well-known names like Ullu, ALTT, and Desiflix.
A notification from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) stressed that intermediaries are responsible for removing or disabling access to unlawful information under the Information Technology Act, 2000, and the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.
The ban aims to restrict the spread of content considered sexually explicit and against Indian legal and cultural standards.
The prohibited apps include Big Shots App, Boomex, Navarasa Lite, Gulab App, Kangan App, Bull App, Jalva App, Wow Entertainment, Look Entertainment, Hitprime, Feneo, ShowX, Sol Talkies, Adda TV, HotX VIP, Hulchul App, MoodX, NeonX VIP, Fugi, Mojflix, and Triflicks.
These platforms have violated several laws, including Section 67 and Section 67A of the Information Technology Act, 2000, Section 294 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and Section 4 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986.
In April, the Supreme Court responded to a petition calling for a ban on sexually explicit content on OTT platforms and social media.
