Chennai, Sep 20 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his heartfelt congratulations to Malayalam film icon Mohanlal for being awarded the esteemed Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
PM Modi remarked that may his achievements “continue to inspire future generations.”
Sharing a photograph with the acclaimed 'Monster' actor on X, the Prime Minister lauded Mohanlal, stating, “Shri Mohanlal Ji embodies excellence and versatility. With a diverse body of work spanning decades, he is a beacon of Malayalam cinema, theatre, and a passionate advocate for Kerala's rich culture. He has also delivered outstanding performances in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Hindi films.
“His cinematic and theatrical brilliance across various mediums is exceptionally inspiring. Congratulations to him on receiving the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. May his achievements continue to inspire generations to come,” the PM added.
On Saturday, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting declared that Mohanlal would receive the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2023 for his commendable contributions to Indian cinema.
In a statement shared on their official X account, they said, “Upon the recommendation of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award Selection Committee, the Government of India is delighted to announce that Shri Mohanlal will be honored with the esteemed Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2023.”
Reflecting on Mohanlal's illustrious cinematic journey, they added, “Mohanlal's exceptional cinematic journey inspires generations! The legendary actor, director, and producer is being celebrated for his iconic contributions to Indian Cinema. His unparalleled talent, versatility, and unwavering dedication have set a remarkable standard in Indian film history.”
The announcement further revealed that the award presentation will take place on September 23 during the 71st National Film Awards ceremony.
Previously, the Government of India recognized Mohanlal with the Padma Shri in 2001 and the Padma Bhushan in 2019 for his contributions to Indian cinema.
In 2009, Mohanlal became the first actor in the Indian film industry to be granted the honorary rank of lieutenant colonel in the Territorial Army.
