Addressing the BRICS session on Environment, COP-30, and Global Health, PM Modi highlighted that climate change and environmental safety have consistently been at the forefront of India's agenda. "For us, it transcends energy; it embodies a commitment to harmonizing life with nature," the Prime Minister articulated.

"I am pleased that under Brazil's leadership, BRICS has prioritized critical issues like the environment and health security. These concerns are not only interconnected but are also vital for humanity's bright future.
"This year, COP-30 takes place in Brazil, rendering discussions on the environment at BRICS both pertinent and timely. Climate change and environmental safety have always been paramount in India. For us, it encompasses more than just energy; it’s about achieving a balance between life and nature. While some may view it as mere statistics, in India, it is woven into our daily lives and traditions. In our culture, we revere the Earth as a mother, which is why we respond whenever Mother Earth calls upon us. We are evolving our mindset, behavior, and lifestyle," Modi stated.
He went on to say: "Driven by the philosophy of 'People, Planet, and Progress', India has initiated numerous essential projects — including Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' (A Tree in the Name of Mother), the International Solar Alliance, the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, the Green Hydrogen Mission, the Global Biofuels Alliance, and the Big Cats Alliance.
"During India's G20 Presidency, we emphasized sustainable development and worked to bridge the divide between the Global North and South. Achieving consensus on the Green Development Pact among all nations was a key milestone. To promote environmentally friendly actions, we also introduced the Green Credits Initiative."
In his remarks, PM Modi noted that despite being the fastest-growing major economy globally, India was the first nation to fulfill its Paris Agreement commitments ahead of schedule.
"We are also making significant strides towards our goal of achieving Net Zero by 2070. Over the past decade, India has experienced a staggering 4,000% increase in its installed solar energy capacity. Through these initiatives, we are establishing a robust foundation for a sustainable and green future.
"For India, climate justice is not just a choice; it is a moral obligation. India firmly believes that without technology transfer and affordable financing for nations in need, climate action will remain limited to discussions. Closing the gap between climate ambitions and financing is a critical responsibility of developed nations. We stand in solidarity with all countries, particularly those grappling with food, fuel, fertilizer, and financial crises due to various global challenges," PM Modi asserted.
He added that "these nations should possess the same confidence that developed countries have in shaping their futures."
"Sustainable and inclusive development of humanity cannot be realized while double standards exist. The 'Framework Declaration on Climate Finance' released today is a commendable step in this direction. India fully endorses this initiative. The health of the planet and humanity are intricately linked. The COVID-19 pandemic taught us that viruses do not require visas, and solutions cannot be dictated by nationality. Shared challenges can only be tackled through collective efforts.
"Guided by the principle of 'One Earth, One Health', India has expanded cooperation with all nations. Today, India boasts the world’s largest health insurance program, 'Ayushman Bharat', which has become a lifeline for over 500 million people. An ecosystem for traditional medicine systems like Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, and Siddha has been established. Through Digital Health initiatives, we are providing healthcare services to more people across the most remote areas of the country. We are eager to share India's successful experiences in these domains," Prime Minister Modi shared.
"I am glad that BRICS has also prioritized enhancing collaboration in health. The BRICS Vaccine R&D Centre, inaugurated in 2022, is a significant move in this direction. The Leader’s Statement on 'BRICS Partnership for Elimination of Socially Determined Diseases' being issued today will serve as new inspiration for strengthening our collaboration.
"I express my sincere gratitude to all participants for today’s crucial and constructive discussions. Under India's BRICS chairmanship next year, we will continue to address all key issues. Our aim will be to redefine BRICS as Building Resilience and Innovation for Cooperation and Sustainability. Just as we ensured inclusivity in our G-20 Presidency, placing the concerns of the Global South at the forefront, we will similarly advance BRICS with a people-centric approach and the spirit of ‘Humanity First’ during our Presidency," he concluded.
Prime Minister Modi wrapped up his address by extending heartfelt congratulations to President Lula on the success of this BRICS Summit. Thank you very much.
