Why Did PM Modi Cut His Bengal Tour Short Due to Bad Weather?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Dec 20 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed disappointment on Saturday regarding the shortened duration of his visit to West Bengal due to unfavorable weather conditions. This situation hindered his attendance at a public rally in Taherpur, situated in the Ranaghat sub-division of Nadia district. He later issued a statement on social media to convey the key points he had planned to discuss at the rally.
Originally, the Prime Minister aimed to be physically present at the rally. Unfortunately, his helicopter could not land at the helipad near Taherpur because of low visibility and had to return to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata, from where he addressed the attendees virtually.
In his statement, PM Modi tackled the ongoing propaganda by the Trinamool Congress regarding the impact of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls on the Matua community, which comprises socially disadvantaged refugees from Bangladesh. He ensured the Matua and Namasudra families that their rights to a dignified life in West Bengal are protected following their citizenship under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
"I assure every Matua and Namasudra family that we will always support them. They are not reliant on the mercy of the TMC. The CAA guarantees their right to live in India with dignity, thanks to our government. Once a BJP government is in place in West Bengal, we will do even more for the Matua and Namasudra communities," PM Modi stated.
He also reiterated his concerns about what he alleged to be the Trinamool Congress' protection of illegal infiltrators in the state.
"The TMC is channeling its efforts into safeguarding infiltrators who exploit the impoverished residents of West Bengal, instilling fear and chaos, and perpetrating violence against our Nari Shakti. It is my commitment to the people of West Bengal that once a BJP government is established, stricter actions will be taken against infiltrators," he emphasized.
Furthermore, he claimed to have alerted the public about the Trinamool Congress' alleged schemes to protect infiltrators.
"Observe how much the TMC cares for infiltrators—while their supporters shout 'Modi Go Back,' they remain silent about 'Infiltrators Go Back,'" he added.
The Prime Minister accused the current state government of being distracted by financial gains, resulting in significant development projects worth crores of rupees being stalled. He urged the citizens of West Bengal to allow the BJP to establish a 'double-engine' government to accelerate development.
