Kolkata, Dec 20 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi's helicopter was unable to land at the helipad in Taherpur, located in West Bengal's Nadia district, on Saturday due to poor visibility conditions.
Upon reaching the vicinity, the pilot assessed that the weather was not conducive for a landing and opted to return to the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata.
The Prime Minister's helicopter safely landed back in Kolkata. Although local BJP leaders speculated that he might travel to Taherpur by road to attend two events—one administrative and one political—the significant distance of over 100 kilometers made this impractical. Consequently, PM Modi is set to address the rally virtually from Kolkata.
Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, confirmed the inability of the helicopter to land at Taherpur.
For the Prime Minister's two events, two distinct platforms were prepared.
From the first dais, he was to inaugurate several Central government initiatives in West Bengal virtually, followed by addressing a political rally from the second dais.
Meanwhile, the area designated for the political rally was already filled with BJP supporters hours ahead of the Prime Minister’s anticipated arrival. The situation escalated to the point where security personnel had to close the entry gates, leaving thousands of BJP supporters waiting outside. Upon hearing the news of the helicopter's failure to land, many supporters voiced their disappointment.
At the Taherpur rally, the Prime Minister was expected to launch the BJP's ongoing campaign aimed at countering the Trinamool Congress regarding the contentious citizenship matters of the Matua community.
