Kolkata, April 4 (NationPress) A concerning drone was detected near the helicopter of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during her visit to Malatipur in the Malda district on Saturday. This incident occurred while the CM was present to deliver a speech at a campaign rally, ahead of the significant two-phase Assembly elections scheduled for later this month.

The Chief Minister noticed the drone herself as she boarded the helicopter following her address. She promptly instructed the police officials on-site to look into the origin of the drone.

“The police must remain vigilant about such occurrences. It is essential to identify those responsible,” the Chief Minister of West Bengal was heard stating.

On that day, Mamata Banerjee was planned to attend three public gatherings in Malda. After her first event in Manikchak, she proceeded to the second one in Malatipur. As she was departing for her next location, Gazole, the drone was observed hovering near the helipad where her chopper was stationed.

Upon witnessing this, she requested the police to monitor the situation closely.

The Congress candidate for Malatipur this election is Mausam Benazir Noor, a former Rajya Sabha member from the Trinamool Congress, who recently switched allegiance back to the Congress party.

Before her transition to the Trinamool Congress just before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, she had served as a Congress Lok Sabha member twice for the Malda (Uttar) constituency in the same district.

In the 2019 elections, she ran as a Trinamool Congress candidate representing Malda (Uttar) but faced defeat.

During the campaign rally in Malatipur, the Chief Minister indirectly criticized Noor as a traitor without mentioning her name, stating that she failed to honor the trust of the party that had previously appointed her to the Upper House of Parliament.

“The people of Malda will never forgive the turncoats. After the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, when there was no representative from Malda in the Lok Sabha, we elevated this district's representative to the Rajya Sabha. She was defeated in Malda in 2019, yet she had been with us for a long time. She joined another party just before this election... I have no objection to her choice. However, the public will not forgive such traitors. She could not secure an MP position by running in elections. She won through the votes of MLAs, including my own. I have never had the opportunity to go to the Rajya Sabha myself. Despite numerous chances, she has chosen this moment to oppose the party,” the Chief Minister remarked.
