Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, April 14 (NationPress) Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, is preparing to launch his campaign for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections with a series of three rallies in North Dinajpur, Malda, and Murshidabad districts. However, prior to his arrival, the Congress party has accused the Trinamool Congress of destroying the temporary helipad constructed in Raiganj, North Dinajpur, where Rahul Gandhi's helicopter was meant to land.
District Congress spokesperson Deepa Dasmunsi has voiced her concerns, while Raiganj Congress candidate Mohit Sengupta has criticized the Trinamool Congress by sharing a video on Facebook.
Deepa Dasmunsi stated, "Everyone is entitled to conduct election meetings. The Trinamool has lost their basic sense of decorum. Meetings are usually held in stadiums following established guidelines. Yet, there have been attempts to disrupt Rahul Gandhi's meeting through malicious politics."
In response, former MP and senior Congress figure Adhir Chowdhury expressed that Rahul Gandhi will witness firsthand the manner in which the Trinamool governs West Bengal.
On the other hand, Trinamool leader Arindam Sarkar, the former vice chairman of Raiganj Municipality, denied any involvement in the helipad's demolition, asserting that the Trinamool is not in a position to obstruct the Congress campaign.
LoP Gandhi is scheduled to hold an election rally at Raiganj Stadium on Tuesday afternoon to support party candidate Mohit Sengupta. In a Facebook update earlier today, Sengupta expressed that he is campaigning out of respect for the ongoing struggle for justice and rights in Bengal.
In anticipation of his rally, a helipad was established adjacent to Raiganj Stadium on Monday. However, accusations arose that the concrete helipad was unexpectedly demolished. Upon learning of this late Monday night, Congress District General Secretary Tushar Guha rushed to the location.
Tushar Guha claimed, "The plans for Rahul Gandhi’s election meeting were confirmed well in advance. Arrangements for the event were initiated with the Raiganj Sub-Divisional Magistrate's approval. Yet, suddenly, the helipad at the stadium is being torn down. This is clearly a conspiracy by the Trinamool Congress."
