Did a Video of Trinamool Leaders Disrupting SIR Hearing Go Viral?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Feb 7 (NationPress) A viral video has surfaced, depicting a faction of Trinamool Congress supporters causing chaos during a hearing regarding claims and objections to the draft voters' list in Bhaduria, located in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district.
The Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, posted the video on his official social media page, alleging an unending spree of hooliganism by the ruling party's activists under the guidance of local leaders.
“Initially, it happened in Farakka, Murshidabad district. Subsequently, similar incidents occurred in Chakulia, North Dinajpur district. Now, Bhaduria in North 24 Parganas has faced the same fate. The deteriorating law and order situation in the state is evident. The state government has intentionally permitted this decline, enabling Trinamool Congress leaders and activists to engage in unlawful activities, such as incorporating bogus voters into the voters' list,” Adhikari stated.
Since the commencement of the hearing sessions for claims and objections to the draft voters' list, there have been numerous instances of disruption instigated by Trinamool Congress workers, often led by party legislators.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has repeatedly warned the state government to ensure adequate police protection at the hearing venues to avert such interruptions.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar addressed this issue in discussions with Trinamool Congress delegations, including the latest meeting on February 2, which was attended by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
During that meeting, the CEC explicitly informed the delegation led by Mamata Banerjee that the ECI would not condone any form of hooliganism that aims to disrupt the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in West Bengal.
Moreover, the CEC highlighted concerns regarding Trinamool Congress legislators who have been openly using abusive and threatening language against the Commission, particularly targeting the CEC, along with threatening electoral officials.
