Kolkata, Aug 6 (NationPress) BJP MPs from West Bengal are preparing to address the incident involving an attack on the convoy of Suvendu Adhikari, the leader of the opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, which occurred in Cooch Behar.
"One of our members will bring this matter to the attention of Parliament and request discussions regarding the incident," stated a BJP Lok Sabha member from West Bengal.
He added that while the Trinamool Congress is vocal about creating a "false narrative" concerning the alleged mistreatment of Bengali-speaking individuals in BJP-governed states, under Mamata Banerjee's administration, "even the security of the Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly is at risk".
"We anticipate that Trinamool Congress MPs will attempt to undermine the issue and deny their party's involvement. However, we possess adequate photographs and video evidence to confirm the participation of Trinamool Congress goons in the attack on Adhikari's convoy," the BJP Lok Sabha member mentioned.
Moreover, he remarked, "The attack on Adhikari's convoy was orchestrated. This is clear from the fact that Trinamool Congress arranged public events at 19 locations, all concentrated in Cooch Behar town, coinciding with the time when the opposition leader was present for a scheduled event.
"This aspect will be emphasized in our arguments," the BJP Lok Sabha member asserted.
In the meantime, the Cooch Behar Police reported that three individuals have been detained in connection with the assault on the opposition leader's convoy.
The suspects have been identified as Zahirul Islam, Sukhlal Rabidas, and Ranjit Dey. However, the district police have not disclosed any information regarding their "political affiliations".
Immediately following the attack, Adhikari received a communication from the Union Home Ministry inquiring about the incident.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah contacted former Union Minister of State for Home Affairs and ex-BJP Lok Sabha member from Cooch Behar, Nisith Pramanik, to discuss the attack on Adhikari.
Subsequently, Adhikari was also contacted by an official from the Union Home Ministry, who sought further details about the attack on his convoy, as per sources.
After providing information regarding the assault, the Union Home Ministry official also inquired about Adhikari's health status.
Sources claim that Adhikari stated over the phone that he could have lost his life if his vehicle had not been bulletproof.
