Was Suvendu Adhikari's Convoy Attacked in Chandrakona, Bengal?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, January 10 (NationPress) The convoy of the Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, faced an attack at Chandrakona in West Midnapore district late Saturday evening. He was returning to Kolkata after participating in a political event in Purulia district.
According to Adhikari, as his convoy passed the four-point crossing in the Chandrakona Road Market area, a group of activists from the ruling Trinamool Congress suddenly obstructed the road while displaying their party flags.
He further alleged that these activists assaulted his convoy using bamboo sticks, targeting the bulletproof vehicle. He expressed concern that despite the ongoing assault, local police did not intervene to deter the attackers.
After managing to escape, Adhikari proceeded directly to the Chandrakona police outpost, where he expressed his intent to remain seated on the floor until the local police identified and apprehended the miscreants. “I will not leave this place until the authorities take action. Let the district police superintendent and other senior officials be informed. I will stay here until the end,” stated the Leader of the Opposition.
As this report was being compiled, Adhikari continued to wait at the police outpost.
This incident marks another instance of attacks on the Leader of the Opposition's convoy, allegedly by Trinamool Congress supporters. In August 2025, his convoy was similarly attacked in Cooch Behar town, where individuals linked to the ruling party attempted to block his vehicles.
Fortunately, Adhikari was unharmed due to the protective bulletproof glass of his vehicle. The BJP later confirmed that the attackers were affiliated with the Trinamool Congress.
