Kolkata, Jan 11 (NationPress) The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has requested a detailed report concerning the supposed assault on the vehicle of Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the West Bengal Assembly, according to BJP sources on Sunday.
The Union Home Ministry has reached out for information from the LoP's office, and it appears that the office is providing video evidence to the MHA.
In the meantime, BJP supporters and workers organized protests across multiple districts in response to the attack on Adhikari's vehicle that occurred on Saturday evening.
Adhikari's convoy was reportedly targeted in Chandrakona, located in the West Midnapore district, as he was returning to Kolkata after attending a political event in Purulia district on Saturday night.
He asserted that after passing the four-point junction near the Chandrakona Road Market, certain members of the ruling Trinamool Congress obstructed the road, brandishing party flags.
Adhikari further alleged that activists from the ruling party assaulted his convoy with bamboo sticks and struck the bulletproof vehicle. He claimed that this incident persisted for a considerable duration without any local police intervention.
Afterward, Adhikari’s convoy managed to escape the scene, and he proceeded directly to the Chandrakona police outpost, where he sat on the floor in protest.
This incident is not the first occurrence of an attack on the Leader of Opposition's convoy, which has been attributed to Trinamool Congress activists before.
Back in August 2025, Adhikari's convoy faced a similar attack in Cooch Behar town in North Bengal, where a group allegedly linked to the Trinamool Congress rushed in to obstruct his vehicles.
Fortunately, Adhikari was unharmed due to the bulletproof glass of the vehicle he was in. The BJP later stated that the attackers were affiliated with the Trinamool Congress.
In response to these claims, Trinamool Congress spokesperson Arup Chakraborty remarked, 'There was no attack on Suvendu's car. People were merely chanting 'Joy Bangla' slogans. He was unable to manage those chants.'
